SO, Jin Kwang, the president of Korea Saemaul Undong Center, had a high-level governmental discussions in the Burundi government building on last 22nd. He had the meeting with many government officials including Jeanne dArc Kagayo, the Minister of Community Development, Barandagiye Pascal, the Minister of Home Affairs, Nzambimana Didace, the assistant secretary of Ministry of Public Service?Labor?Employment and Baranyikwa Epipode, the Senior Advisor to the President in Community Development.
Baranyikwa Epipode, the Senior Advisor to the President in Community Development, said “Burundi has been currently implementing the policies for reforming of villagers’ consciousness and improvement in their quality of life based on the success experience of Saemaul Undong in Korea. Burundi government supported cement, iron bars and land to villagers but they still want free materials and resources from the government. I sincerely hope Saemaul Undong in Korea changes their mind.”
“UN has evaluated Saemaul Undong as the successful model for community development in recent days. It’s really important for Burundi government to spread the Saemaul Spirits which are diligence, self-help and cooperation and to strengthen ability of villagers. Also, the government has to give free rein to villagers when they plan and implement the Saemaul project.” SO, Jin Kwang, the president of Korea Saemaul Undong Center, emphasized.
Jeanne dArc Kagayo, the Minister of Community Development, said "Rural development is a current issue of our government and we have already implemented the policies for it to improve villagers’ capability in rural area since last January" and "Of course, we are facing many problems like lack of water and resource, unstable electricity, etc but the crucial point is that the villager should take Saemaul Spirits in them. We will focus on to strengthen the villagers capacity."
