President SO, Jin Kwang of Korea Saemaul Undong Center learned Colombia’s social integration policies and discussed the effective ways to apply Saemaul Undong to them with Minister Nemesio Roys Garzon of Departamento para la Prosperidad Social (DPS), visiting the DPS of Colombia on June 20.

The Colombian government has been actively implementing social integration policies for its social prosperity and unification after peace agreement with Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia(FARC) since Nov. 2016.

During meeting, President SO said that “Saemaul Undong is the community development model which united Korean people and led to economic growth by fulfilling ‘governance’, ‘social capital’, and ‘sustainability’ that are three core elements of development in the 21st century.” He added that “Through sharing Saemaul Undong experiences, I hope youths between the two countries work together in the international society for global common prosperity and FARC plays a pivotal role in Saemaul Undong Global League that was founded with 33 members countries last October.”

To this, Minister Nemesio Roys Garzon of Departamento para la Prosperidad Social (DPS) responded “The government of Colombia has been implementing a range of policies to establish peace regime, making inclusive society to lead to sustainable development.” He added that “I entirely agree with Saemaul Undong approach through villager’s voluntary participation and sincerely hope we can strengthen mutual cooperation to apply it to various policies we have been implementing now.”
