President SO, Jin Kwang of Korea Saemaul Undong Center delivered a special lecture, entitled “The Evolution of Saemaul Undong” in front of the faculty and students of Agricultural region development department, visiting The University of Goroka in Papua New Guinea on August 30.
 
In his lecture, President SO explained motivation to start Saemaul Undong(SMU), outcomes of SMU, and approaches to be applicable in rural ares in PNG. Also, he suggested a possible approach for ‘Global Value Chain’ through Saemaul Undong Global League(SGL) launched with 33 member countries in last year.
 
Before delivering the special lecture, President SO had a meeting with Vice President Donarld Gumbis of the University of Goroka. Donarld Gumbis said “PNG whose economic base is agriculture has a lot of social problems including difficult terrain and conflicts among different tribes. But the most serious problem is that we have still relied on overseas aids.” He added that “I sincerely hope SMU approach and success cases of Saemaul Undong in Korea would contribute to economic development and solutions for social issues in PNG.”
