The Ceremony celebrating 50th Anniversary of Saemaul Undong and National Proclamation Conference of Saengmyeong Salrim Undong took place on June 25, 2020 at the Grand Auditorium of Korea Saemaul Undong Academy.
The Ceremony was held under the tight quarantine system (high fever check, sanitizing, etc.) for preventing COVID-19.
It was originally scheduled to be held on April 22, but postponed twice due to COVID-19.
The Ceremony was attended by 150 honored guests including Chung, Sye-kyun(Prime Minister), Yoon, Jong-in(Vice Minister of the Interior and Safety), Chung, Sung Heon (President of Korea Saemaul Undong Center), members of National Assembly, Foreign Ambassadors, and also the former and current Saemaul leaders.
In the commemoration speech, Chung, Sung Heon, President of Korea Saemaul Undong Center (KSC) stated, &39&39Today, we have gathered here to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Saemaul Undong and proclaim the new national movement, called Saengmyeong Salrim Undong. Only the enlightened people can open up and broaden the path of life. From now on, we are going to raise members of 5 million people for 3 years. We will continuously work and spread Saengmyeong Salrim Undong together.&39&39
In the following congratulatory speech, Prime Minister Chung, Sye-kyun said, &39&39On the occasion of the 50th anniversary, Saemaul Undong has come to decide to take a new path for brave transformation and self-innovation, &39Saengmyeong Salrim Undong.&39 Saengmyeong Salrim Undong is to build a community harmonized with human and nature combatting life and climate crisis. I hope the fruits of our fundamental shift to be shared at the meaningful occasion of the 100th anniversary of Saemaul Undong in 2070.&39&39
In her speech, Peniana LALABALAVU, Ambassador of Fiji said, &39&39Fiji is not excluded from the global economic repercussions of COVID-19. Saemaul Undong is the guiding development model that has the potential to empower Fijian villages economically and socially by reinforcing the values of self-help, diligence and cooperation, and this will set Fiji on a strong pathway towards achieving its socio-economic development and on recovery after COVID-19.&39&39
Governmental awards were given to 40 people who contributed to Saemaul Undong.
At the Proclamation Conference of Saengmyeong Salrim Undong, participants commemorated the 50th anniversary of its significance and achievements, and read the Declaration of Saengmyeong Salrim Undong, which pledged to take an active role in overcoming the climate crisis and solving environmental pollution problems. For the tasks, &391 Build, 2 Plant, 3 Reduce&39 Movement is carried on, which means &39Building Organic Solar Power Plant, Planting trees and Kenaf, and Reducing Vinyl, Plastic and Imported meats.&39
