“We will not forget Ethiopia. During the Korean War, Ethiopian soldiers devoted to protect freedom for the people of South Korea at the risk of their life. I am very happy to participate in a campaign for sending masks to relieve a burden of Ethiopians who are in difficulties caused by COVID-19 pandemic." said Mrs. Choi, Samja, director of Chilgok-gun Saemaul Undong Center in Gyeongsangbuk-do.

On June 23 2020, ahead of the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of Korean War, Director Mrs. Choi participated in ‘6037 Campaign’ to express the sincere gratitude for Ethiopian Veterans of Korean War and their family. 6037 Campaign was named after the total number of Ethiopian soldiers who served in Korean War at the time.

The campaign was launched by a photo of one Ethiopian veteran wearing a towel with his face due to mask shortage druing COVID-19 crisis in Ethiopia. Director Mrs. Choi has sent masks with a letter written by her own hand which was translated into English by her daughter-in-law Professor Kwon, Jiyoung of economy in the University of Texas at Austin.

The handwritten letter has a gratitude for devotions of veterans and explains how to use a filter-replaceable mask. Her special letter was sent to Ethiopia via the Ethiopian Embassy in Seoul on June 25th, and delivered to the veterans.
