Korea Saemaul Undong Center carried out monitoring and local training for the 2022 Uganda Model Village Project from November 30 to December 11, 2022.
The Ugandan monitoring team toured 7 Model Villages, checked project operation details, and provided on-site guidance, while visiting the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Uganda and Uganda local government department to understand the progress of the Saemaul Undong in Uganda and to ask interest and cooperation in the implementation of the Saemaul Unodng Model Village Projects. The 7 Model Villages in Uganda are actively promoting Saemaul Undong Projects such as the construction of village halls, afforestation projects to improve the living conditions, and pineapple and passion fruit projects to increase income.
The Uganda monitoring team also promoted local training at NFLC(National Farmers’ Leadership Center) for 4 days and 3 nights from 12.5 (Mon) to 12.8 (Thu), 2022. A total of 51 residents of Saemaul Model Villages and of Self-help villages, and public officials took classes such as Saemaul lectures, field trips, and participated in action plans presentation.
The Uganda Monitoring Team also attended the 2022 Uganda Saemaul Leaders’ Convention held on 2022.12.9. The Minister of Environment of Uganda, the mayor of Kampala, the capital of Uganda, and about 500 residents of Model Villages and Saemaul Villages where the Model Village Projects completed participated in the event, holding various events and opening markets to showcase various business types through the Saemaul Undong in Uganda.
The Saemaul Undong Model Village Project in Uganda is in its second year this year and is being promoted in 7 Model Villages.
